Deauville-Troarn
75 km trip
This is a lovely trip and at a steady pace should not take
more than three and a half hours. The most difficult part of the ride is
on the D27 after Vauville (about 15 or so minutes out of Deauville) for about 20 or so minutes and then it's
smooth sailing most of the way.
|
Take the D27 either from the D278 (at the round-a-about out
of St. Arnoult) or from the Trouville-Deauville-Touques intersection at the
N177 towards Tourgéville. |
|
Stay on the D27 all the way to Varaville. The
D27 views vary from tree lined areas to open fields of corn.
This is a well travelled road, but traffic is usually not too heavy. |
|
At Varaville the D27 ends as it
intersects with the D513.
Turn to the left unto the D513 (direction Caen) for a few meters and then turn
left again unto the D95 towards Troarn.
|
|
The D95 is a really beautiful road. You'll hardly
ever meet any cars, there are splendid open vistas of fields and farmland.
Inhale the fresh smell of cut grass and the pungent aroma of horses and cows. |
|
At Troarn continue straight unto the D78 towards Janville
(the sign on this main road in Troarn will say Route de Janville). |
|
Get off the D78 and unto the D80, direction Brocottes and
then the D49 to Putot-en-Auge. |
|
Don't miss the road towards Cricqueville (D49b and then
shortly afterwards D49a) which passes under the A13. The D49a is uphill
most of the way, but the joy you'll feel at the top when the D27 comes into
view is delightful. |
|
Turn right unto the D27 and enjoy the easy way (mostly
level and downhill) home to Deauville. |
I tried another way around this area which was longer but
truly lovely. I took the D677 to Pont l'Eveque, then the D675 (used to
be the N175) all they through to Troarn, stopping for coffee at Dozule.
At Troarn I turned on to the D95 towards the D27 and home.
