This is the latest sweater I made for my daughter. I used a soft, light cotton/acrylic blend. The seed stitch gives it a kind of cozy bulky feel, but in reality this sweater is lightweight. It was actually designed by my daughter for walking along the beaches of Normandy on a windy late spring day... This sweater is easy to make and easy to wear.

What you will need for a girl size 10-12:

8--50gram (1oz76) balls of Phildar Coton Micro Fibres cotton/acrylic blend (129m--141yds per ball) in color Outremer, 3.5mm knitting needles (american # 4), 3mm knitting needles for ribs (american # 3). Use 3mm circular needles for neck, or only connect one shoulder and use regular needles. Crochet needle to weave in loose yarn. Gauge in stockinet for 10cm (4") square: 25stitches/32rows with 3.5mm needles.

Instructions:

Back: Make up 86 sts. Rib for 5cm with 3mm needles. Switch to 3.5 needles. Start classic seed sts (knit one, perl one; next row perl the knits, knit the perls and so on). Add 1 sts on each side the first two rows. You have 88 sts. Knit in seed sts straight for 50cm. Make neck by dec. center 12 sts then 6, 6 each side. At same time dec. shoulder from outer edge 8, 9, 9 each side. Close at 52cm length, 48cm width.

Front: You will need more stitches for the front because of the cable panel. Make up 90 sts. Rib for 5cm with 3mm needles. Switch to 3.5 needles, add 1 sts next four rows. You have 94 sts. Knit 33 sts in seed sts and start cable pattern. Knit straight for 45cm. Make neck by dec center 7 sts, then 5, 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 each side. At the same time as last two decreases for neck, dec for shoulder from outer edge 8, 9, 9 each side. Close at 52cm length, 48cm width.

Sleeves: Make 40 sts. This time there is no rib. The sleaves are meant to hang free or be rolled or folded up. Knit with 3.5mm needles in seed sts. Add 1 sts each side every 6 rows 20 times. By row 130 you will already have 80 sts. Close off at 140 rows or 44cm length, 43 width.

Neck: Connect the shoulders to do the wide turtle neck with 3mm circular needles, or if you prefer, you can close only one shoulder and use regular 3mm needles. The finish is neater with circular needles. Pick up 95 sts for neck as follows. 43 at back, 52 at front. Knit rib for 20 cm. Close off loosely. Connect the sleeves, close the sides. Use a crochet needles to hide any loose yarn thread by weaving into the seams.

Enjoy!
