From the Church...follow the D278 through Saint Arnoult.
At the Round, take the direction "Tourgeville, Dezoule", which
keeps you on the 278. Leaving St. Arnoult you will come to a
roundabout. Take the direction to the right--the D27 towards Dezoule,
Tourgeville, Cabourg. |
|
Keep on this road all the way. It's mostly open to the
sun. There is a bit of a rise after Tourgeville but after that it's
quite easy going. |
|
There will be a terrific downhill rush after Auberville.
Hang on because the roads are quite swervy! |
|
Take the D49 (direction Dives sur Mer) and then the D400 or
you can skip the D49 and just keep on the D27 a bit more and take the
D400. In any case, keep going towards Cabourg. |
|
Enjoy a ride to the center of town. There is a lovely
street with shops. Be sure to walk along the boardwalk and admire the
Grand Hotel and its view of the sea--just the way Proust saw it. |
|
Go back to the center of town and towards Dives sur Mer,
Cabourg's sister town and then Houlgate. Houlgate is a pretty town and
deserves a visit on its own. |
|
Once there be sure NOT to take the direction suggested to
Deauville (D513). Instead take the sign that points to the center of
town. You'll be going uphill a bit. Turn right unto Avenue du
Sporting (yep, it's uphill) and at the top you will be able to take the
D163. |
|
This road will take you to a beautiful vantage point above
the Falaises des Vaches Noir. And once you're up there you'll have no
further steep rises to worry about. |
|
After a while this road will merge back into the D513.
There will be another terrific downhill ride after Auberville to Villiers
sur Mer. |
|
Admire the dinosaur! |
|
Continue on the D513 all the way through the flat coastal
road to the bit of rise around Bonneville, and home to Deauville! |
